hi, im looking to get the rods out after a long time without fishing. ive decided to have another go at it! i have an oppertunity thursday and or friday day time. was thinking of either lepe or maggy lane. last time i fished maggy i lost a load of gear through snags which wasnt fun! is parking still...

i fished the castle a week or so ago, caught my first bass.. weed is a bit of a pain and the tide can be strong when it gets going. the hole seems very strong when it comes in. the weed is better in close, my bass was close in to the shore. if ur not up for the walk drive to keyhaven and park there,...

southbourne/ heingistbury groyne friday

im heading that way to see a mate and have a fish. will be a day time trip. hw is aprox 1600.

is one of the venues likley to be more productive than the other? or has any one fished recently?

can any one also recomend a near by tackle shop?

usually fish solent venues, recently hurst castle and down towards poole. mostly during weekdays as i work shifts and try to spend any weekends with the mrs, dont see much of her despite sharing a house. im looking at friday the 12 (weather depending). i shud be able to get out between theth and 26t...

thanks for the reply haddock, you blog is a very good source of info for beginners like me. you work is much appriciated i did fish the castle today, a slow day but did land my first bass (a schoolie)., weed is a huge pain there at the moment. worse when the tide turns in (i guess thats to be expect...

hurst castle question

im thinking of another trip to the castle tomorrow. unfortunatly due to work i wont be able to fish the evening tide, i can only make from 9am until 1600 ish.

is really wotrh a shot or are there venues that fish better in this sort of situation?

just got my order from veals, a buget spining rod and real to get me started. reel looks ok and will suit my needs but im confused..........the rod is 10ft with a casting wt of 50-100g. the free spinning lures are abu garcia 28g.. will these be too light to cast properly with the rod, if so why supp...

just done some more reading, i think spining rod will suit my needs for now

maybe a bass rod later (when the other half has calmed down about yet more tackle in the house!!)

thats a great help, sounds like i may look at bass rods, will give me a better range of fishing. ie if im spinning and bump into a sizable bass or pollock it should be able to cope!! also gives me another rod to fish baits with in the surf!

i think some time theres too much choice in kit to buy!!!

finally made it out!! fished the castle from 1130 ish til bout 1600 (hw about 1430) only managed a spider crab and think i lost a schoolie on the retreive.plenty of knocks close in on the retreating tide. think i need to work on my bite detection fished with the light house at my 7 o'clock saw a sco...

nice fish.

i think ive see water proof bags some where for phones and wallets etc, you may be able to strap them to ya kayak or may even be able to get ones that float (and chase after once uve righted) have a look around they may be useful!

due to a shoulder injury i have not been out this year. im looking to get out on the above days. my first thoughts are hurst castle never fished there before so advice is very welcome. hw is around 1300 so i should be able to fish several hours either side. species wise im not fussy!! can anyone adv...

just started using the above.

its quite useful for lookin up marks and car parks etc. you can mark these and keep a map of them. ive done marks car parks and bait shops.

any one else tried it?
