Let's be extra carefull out there boys n girls!I hope the fishing is supertastic but be that little bit more aware of high water marks and remember that you need to be that little bit further up/back.

Hope it fishes its titties off and good luck..

Be safe peeps.

I can give you two to start with.

Penarth pier-free the last time I fished it (that may have changed somewhat though!).Check if any restrictions are in place before you visit.

Mumbles Pier-About £3 a rod and a great venue for both summer & winter species.

Sound advice there. Leaders are a critical part of your set up and getting the right tackle to use them is equally as important. There is an immense strain on knots and terminal tackle when you cast so be sure that any links, swivels and knots can handle the task.Safety is paramount and getting it wro...

Bream tend to be a summer species in the UK and are caught on various baits, but I've found harbour rag to be the most effective from the piers.I usually use a small size 14 carp hook on a light spinning rod with 4lb breaking strain line.Use a 2oz drilled bullet lead and paternoster rig, presenting th...

Is cost an issue Stuart? There are many many options in terms of good quality winter waterproofs and none worth buying come in at less than 50 quid or there abouts! You're right!I can't find oilskins on the interweb neither, stopping short of tapping 'rubber trousers' into google,I have kids you know!!

Do a search for Greys.I'm sure they manufacture a 13 (might even be 14)foot fixed spool beachcaster.Greys make superb rods which are really well designed and handle well if you want to punch 5 ounces of lead over the horizon! At the moment I'm fishing with a Penn Venom FS 13 foot and a Penn INXS Lon...

can you elaborate a little?

Are we talking about a fixed spool or multiplier rod?
What length of rod are you talking about?
What's your budget?

There has been a decline in my neck of woods in terms of numbers caught certainly.Whether this is down to changes in the food source or something more sinister is hard to say,but dwindling numbers of fish caught is definately a problem down here.I don't know, perhaps local diggers can comment and say...
