If you don`t have a fly rod a small bubble float with a fly behind (or indeed in front) may get you away from the weed and into a fish.

Ps My father went grenade fishing a couple of times in Aden during WW2 ................

I think a sideways drift is normal with the angler moving around the boat if it swings. I am sure a drogue would be a pain in the butt to use and would cut down on fishing time retrieving it and putting it back down repeatedly. I would suggest you persevere until you get used to the motion or leave ...

Re: Paternosters

[quote="rabbi2"]Anyone remember the old wire paternosters? Do they still make them? Well the answer is yes. I found a lad who makes them up in his spare time. Back in the 60s we used to have to cast with them as there was nowt else on the market at that time. Does anyone still use them either for bo...

I believe matching the circle hook size to the size of fish is very important. A small circle hook is unlikely to get a good hold on a big fishes jaw . Circle hooks can be useful if you are plagued by small bass etc which have no trouble swallowing a 4/0 j hook and floating away to die after the unh...

Looks like you had a nice day for it and a few fish. The gurnard is a tub not a red, the red gurnard does not have blue edges to the pectoral fins.
Pretty fish and tasty too ! :)
