Try Penarth pier, usually a friendly bunch, and it generally produces codling and whiting at this time of the year, and it's comfortable fishing.You will also meet plenty of locals who will be happy to advise you. Always found squid a good all rounder for this time of year, it's a good whiting mark, and a few strap( or better ) conger show occasionally. It's a steep shingle mark and produces much the same all along, but a tip I was given was to head left from the car park towards Cardiff and fish the furthest...

nice pics Hector...... We had a similar day out from Newton, with 7 smoothound like your Dad's, a few Ray's and one nice 20lb+ Conger as well as loads of Dogfish (greedy beggers), and like you guys they all (including the doggies) all swam away safely.
No pics though sorry......

We've had them off the boat recenttly from Porthcawl to around 9-10lb(had a nice one today in fact) also they have been caught last week from mumbles Pier, and it almost caused havoc because the pIer was quite busy!! :)

You can fish from the Barrage, or nearby at Penarth, beach or pier. There are also a few good locations at Barry, such as Cold Knap
