Catching Garfish

Hi all, haven't posted in a while but want to be prepared for the next few months ;) Was thinking the other day, I never caught a Garfish through-out the Summer, neither have I ever seen one. From what I've read, I gather Garfish are a Summer species which swim a few feet beneath the surface, much l...

Why would you ask such an evil question :((

Thinking about it though, I haven't caught a dogfish since the Summer, back then they were coming in ever 10-15 minutes. Only thing I had all Winter was a poor cod and alot of small cod (not even 1lbs).

Ah thanks alot for the quick replies :D One last thing, should I adjust the drag before I go fishing or after each cast? (The 3 reels I currently have used have all come with the drag reduced enough to make retreiving nearly impossible! I reel in yet the weight is taking out my line alone.) Should I...

Drag on a fixed spool reel?

Another newbie question for you lot. I've watched a lot of fishing videos over the past few months and see that most are on boat and using multi-reels. When hooked onto a decent fish, the line lets itself out according to the strength of the fish, just wondering if I should be doing the same thing w...

That's what I was hoping. Heard of two people catching from using small frozen Mackerel baits. But I guess it would be better off waiting than to waste time targeting them.

Any Mackerel around?

Ello again, haven't been out fishing since the last few days of December. Tried a quick feathered rig for Mackerel but no luck after getting snagged after 7 casts or so. Just wondering if anyone has recently had any luck with Mackerel or is it still too early? If so, any ideas when they begin showin...

Get your yellow line, tie a blood knot around your reel spool. After that you hold the reel while you ask/order Reels on Wheels junior to hold the yellow line. From there you keep reeling it in and it will easily add itself onto the reel. Always make sure the line isn't too slack or tight when reeli...

Hi jelley :) I also fish from a rock mark which has very rough ground. What I do is use a breakaway weight/lead. It looks like an ordinary weight but has 4 metal spines sticking out of it. Once these hit the bottom they dig into the sand and keep your rig in place so it doesn't go wondering off unti...

Thanks very much for the quick replies :) Ratman, as for limpets I fish from a rock mark with plenty of them around. Have tried using them twice but not even a bite unfortunately. Got 2 new rods for christmas so I guess nows the opportunity to try different baits using 2 hook flappers. Unfortunately...
