It seems to me that the fish that trawlers catch very rarely get put back into the sea alive if they are undersize. They may get dumped into the sea dead, but why? If there is to be any sort of sensible approach to conservation of the fish stocks, would it not be better for the size limits to be rem...

Don't freeze lug, ever. all you have to do is buy a load of salt and put it into a cat litter tray, put the lug in that. You have to keep moving the salt around and you may have to change the salt untill they are properly dried out, but the result will be firm and castable. the problem with freezing...

I'd count on using 20 lug per hook per hour. If you should have any left, don't freeze them, dry them using salt..

When the tide is pulling strong and a heavy lead won't hold bottom, try letting oput a bit more line so that the line has a bow in it, a lot like uptiding from a boat. If theres a lot of weed about then this will do you no good but if its just a strong tide then it will make the line pull in the sam...

Where in the country do you live? the only clue you gave is that there is a pier and theres a lot of towns that have them! The other thing is, what sort of budget are you working to?
