Fished the pier last Tuesday from 1030 to1630 (13th) on the left at the entrance on the rising tide.Had three sole and half a dozen schoolies.
Guys coming up from the end hadn't even had a bite and there were no reports of anything else caught.

I have been in contact with the pier management by e-mail(as I'm sure many others have). Why couldn't they send a brief e-mail?

I suspect that this sudden decision to close the pier "for repairs" is a direct result of the incident referred to earlier. The pier has been in a dreadful state for a long time now and I know a number of anglers who now consider it unsafe to fish and no longer go there. Is this geniuine information...

Yeah, it is a bit galling, isn't it. I've been down there sometimes when no-one comes to collect the day ticket money! I don't know why,in the winter at least, the pier management cannot erect some sort of barrier so all anglers have to go to the office to pay/show their ticket before they're allowe...

Walton Pier

Thanks for the report, Joli. Interesting to note that herring are showing. They can be caught on feathers, but they need to be the smallest you can get. With regard to the sea bed, most of it round the pier is marl, a sort of grey clay which grips weights like superglue. It does have the advantage of...

I nearly fished there yesterday, but opted for the Viewpoint instead. Tried whole squid in a DVice onone rod, and rag, lug, prawn on a two hook flapper on the other. Had a small bass on rag just as the tide turned, but nothing else.
