WARNING - THIS RAY CAN KILL YOU

A Marble Ray has been caught off the southcoast, near Shorham. This fish is normally found in warmer waters in the med, but if there is one, there could be more :o The fish delivers a massive electric shock which is sufficient to kill a man outright. Please take a look at this picture, store it in t...

I have tried raw prawns a few time, never caught a thing, yet on another rod, lug and maccy was catching (so the fish were in the neighbourhood)

I suspose it is also down to if prawn is the staple diet of the fish in the area :-/

There will always be a contingent of "how brutal you are, killing an innocent fish", no matter how quick or humane you do it. I am a brute - I kill alsorts, but always as quickly as physically poss. Ian Golds Supermatch stands are very well made, quite well priced too.

Mine has stood up to 50 mph gusts, 2 rods and very rough seas on Shingle, no tipping over.

There can be a problem at weekends if the weather is good: Jetski nutters go there to show off so better to do it in the week or when the weather is not likely to encourage the idiots out. Went last year for a quiet evenings fish, little buggers on their Jetski's, I swear they purposely attempt to ...

In all honesty anything will work, depending on where you are fishing ;) For example , if you are fishing off a pier or harbour wall, where there is a lot of human traffic, with sandwiches, fish food stall food , or even a Mc Donalds nearby, the local fish population will be used to picking up scrap...

It's Algae Bloom, and is on the increase. It's not the fish don't like it , it kills them. phytoplankton - the posh name for this stuff, is on the increase and literally takes all the air out of the water, causing fish to die. The reason (according to the BBC website ) is down to declining fish stoc...

Irresdent or silvery mackerel lures - you can buy them premade from all angling shops. Put on a 1 or 2 oz lead, lower into the water, jiggling them up and down, keep going even when you feel the first strike - as most mackeral rigs have 5 or so hooks. If you plan to use them as bait, then store them...

Just for the record If you DO get stung, the best treatment is to soak the affected area in a bowl of HOT water, as hot as you can bear - this breaks down the venom and reduces the pain time. Obviously do not use boiling water - and watch how hot it is, you do not want to end up in the burns unit ;)

Using Lures off Orford Quay

On one of the cleanups, one of the members was using a weighted lure to try for bass - but me being useless at names cannot remember who it was :P

If he reads this, could you be kind enough to let me know what brand/model they were please?
