Hi Phil, What I'm using at the moment is a two and three quarter test curve carp rod with a 4500 size reel loaded with 30lb braid and 15ft of 30lb nylon leader for mackerel with 2oz lead and four feathers. If you look at the Angler fish his lure is luminous/fluorescent and as Keith says keep it moving he does and catches plenty of fish so I would say it works in the right conditions.
