The three hook flapper rig (diag 1) is called by this name because it presents the bait on three hook snoods which flap around. This is amongst one of the most commonly used rigs in sea match angling. This rig is mainly used for short to medium range fishing, while the three hook clip down rig (diag 2) would have baits clipped tight against the rig body and the base hook clipped down to a lead release clip enabling a more stream line rig for longer range casting.
