TIGA SL85 Head Lamp

As we are getting into the Winter months and the nights are drawing in, I thought I would post a review of one of my latest purchases - the Tiga SL85. OK. It is in two parts, the head lamp part and the belt and battery. This particular model has the LiION battery, which has the same (ish) life as the cheaper lead acid battery, but is a lot lighter - about half the weight in fact. Firstly, it is bright - VERY bright. I don't bother anymore with a base light and have therefore retired my Northstar as this is more than sufficient for lighting not only the rod tips, but a good portion of the beach as well. I was a bit put off by the fact that the battery is on your waist, but you don't notice it after a while, and as the cable that connects the battery to the headlamp is coiled, it doesn't interfere with your clothing. The battery life is about 7.5 hours on normal and 2.5 on flood, but you don't need flood very much - only for lighting up the water at the bottom of a pier (say) and stupid numpty Yachties that go over your lines. It charges in about 3-4 hours and it is intelligent so you can't over charge it. The battery charger has lights to tell you what status of charge is (full, trickle, fast) so you always know how much juice you have in it before you go out. It is VERY comfortable and fits on your head without chaffing your forehead like my cheapo LED one does. If you can afford the extra - get the SL85 as the SL12 has a battery that is a bit too heavy for normal use I would think. There is a retro-upgrade kit, but I think it is 90 quid, so quite expensive.
