Sea Fishing

Penn Surfmaster 850

I got two of these last week and got them for 50 quid each off the internet. They both worked fine straight out of the box, but then one of them broke (bail arm spring (?)) but it was easy enough to fix. They cast superbly - very long distances can be achieved with these - more than 200 yards as the advert goes, but I'm not as good as that, so I can only do 120-130 but it's still more than my old reels. Very well built (apart from the broken spring) and will last for years. They are half price at the moment so you can grab yourself a bargain if you're quick. Only thing I don't like is that the clip that holds the line for storage on the side of the reel isn't big enough to hold 50lb shock leader, but I think all manufacturers do that. Other than that - very impresive and definately worth a look. I'm giving these a 9 because of the broken spring. Otherwise it would have got a 9.5 - 10.
