Bass in the Ore

Hi, tried my boat out on the river Ore at Aldeburgh this week, 2 trips and no fish, a local angler said the bass went off 2 weeks ago, nobody was catching from the shore hot spots either. Do the fish migrate this time of year or is it just a bad patch ?
I am testing my boat and engine on the river ready to go out to sea soon, realy looking forward to it, I hope the fish feed on the sand banks.

Hi Keith, I have no backup, with the currents around these rivers it would be useless. Have a radio to call the lifeboat, which spends most of it's time towing boats without power it would seem. big grin

i would have thought you should have a backup as the lifeboat in a voluntary organisation

and if as you say spends most of the time towing other boats howdo you know it wont bebusy when you need it

or someone else needs it more urgently than you

after all they are risking there life to save others

sorry dont mean to offend you or anyone

but thats my opinion

comming from a seafaring family ,many of my great and great great grandfathers and other family members , generations ago died working on the lifeboats (19th and 18th centuruys|)

sorry if my post has offended you, but it was the skipper of a lifeboat (who shall be nameless) who said , quote ''you don't need a backup with that engine, if it won't start we'll come and get you.''

i think this is because the currents at the river mouths around here are so treacherous that a small backup motor would not cope and you could be washed onto gravel banks or swept away. For instance Southwold charts warn you of extreme currents, also the Ore and Deben have seriously strong currents and shallow gravel bars.

thanks for the offer Keith, but i can pick one up localy if I get one, you may see by my previous posting that i had some high level advice about small backups, so I shall seek further advice. I wonder if the other members are aware of the amount of water that passes out of the rivers of suffolk. Look at the charts and you will see our rivers inland are wide and miles long and empty through narrow, shallow river mouths which can run completely dry on spring tides, the water is literaly boiling, unlke essex where the rivers are narrow inland and widen at the coast.
