Caught a fair few Doggies over the years and a smaller number of its larger cousin the Bull Huss. Those I've caught especially in the north tended to have a fairly distinct banding on the body. Recently caught what I and others believed to be a large doggy amomgst a load of other doggies on Chesil(4LB 2oz) Size made me wonder if it was Bull Huss. Didn't have the same banding but have since been told that down there the markings can be identical. Does anyone know of any surefire way of working out the difference without killing the fish? |

Geejay is right Bull Huss have flaps of scin over their nostrils. LSD's dont
Also some LSD's have very similar colouring to Bull Huss so the nose flaps are the best way to be sure

Going from the ones I have caught, if fish skin were a sandpaper I'd give LSD's a medium grade and Bull Huss a coarse grade. Take care when handling them. |
