get a piece of tube a bit wider than your rod butt and bang it into the sand abd rest your rod in it

or three pieces of wood /bamboo tie together at the top and open as a wig wam shape a good cheap rest

its a shame not being able to fishwhere you want to

or another one i heard is two tent pegs and a 20ft piece of rope / string put the pegs 8ft apart , tie on the string then put your rod in the middle and rest the string on one of the rod eyes and lean the rod forward ( i think that was manics idea )
good luck whatever you do

a cheap way of making a rod rest is to buy a piece of drain pipe the stuff you have in most bathrooms ,cut a piece 3-4 ft long warm 1 end and flatten to a spike shape ,its light and cheap to replace and light enough to carry ,ive used 1 before and you can wedge it into rocks if you need to big grin

Nah mate. it was all crap. had bites on almost every cast but missed loads as nipper was just casting out and reeling in constantly so bait was running low and i was messing round with his baiting his up. he soon got his crab line out tho and left me to it lol
