As long as it's not stainless any hook suits me. I reckon stianless hooks should be banned. If I lose a hooked fish I want to know that my hook will rot out pretty quickly and let the fish live on. |

I love the Varivas Big Mouth hooks from Veals for most general shore fishing 2/0 3/0 4/0 ,landed some nice fish on them too, they are very very sharp and do keep the point nicely. For anything like the Bristol Channel or Hound fishing i use the Bix Mouth Extra.same pattern but a heavier gage metal, super strong and sharp.....give em a try, youll like em
And its about £4 for 30 hooks
Whilst i think of it Veals do a selection pask of a lot of there hooks, good idea really as you only need one pack to give most of there hooks a try, including the above mentioned semi circle hooks and big mouths and more, 8) |

Evening all.....
Would have to opt for the kamasan chemicaly sharpend variety,, a very serious hook that can be relied on, although mustard do go along way.
Recently tried some of "alan yates" thought they were very justified.
Cant go wrong with the classic aberdeen blacks by kamasan though.

Hi all,
Guess it depends on the job you want to do i suppose. I tend to use Kamasan but when fishing for cod i'll go for mustad (cant remember the number but they are the green cod hook with the bait barbs on).
Then if im fishing for big bass i will use something that has a pair of balls and wont get straightened out. I go for the sakuma manta "extra's" as i lost a few large fish on other brands this year with the hooks bending out.

i have to admit however much i might like the sakuma range of hoks... and lines for that matter, mustad do make some very good hooks for flatfish, i cant remeber the number but i bought them in size 6 and the packet had a flatty and whity on, they arnt too soft but and bendy enough to get out of snags, very nice hooks indeed but if i remember correctly they were stainless and thats why i stopped using them |

i'll use what ever is availiable , given the choice i'd use mustad 'nordic's'.
its more a case of what i aviod
1, anything in stainless.
2, mustad, i think there called 'ultra point's' , nice and sharp but only for the first couple o casts.

Trying Gamakatsu hooks at the moment, but havn't caught anything on them yet
I normally use, penn, eagle claw or mustard hooks with good results.
Stainless hooks, yeah I agree, bad idea. |
