| Have got masses of tying kit over the years but none of it seems any good for long 4-5" eel type flies, bucktail too short and synthetic as MJB says is too tangly. What to use ,tandems-tubes-waddys or is there a stiffer wing material easily available ? |

You have a few options. You can reduce the synthetics fouling by tying in all the materials on the bend side of the shank if tying a clouser style fly. Covering the body of the fly with epoxy can help similar to a surf candy. A sparsely dressed deceiver will fit the bill. Bucktail deceiver, tied with a goat hair tail would work too. For really long flies (6" +) have a look at flatwings.
