I would like to hear about new and old fishing tackle from you guys, as your the folk that use it. Im not worried if its a good or bad review so long as its your honest opinion. Im fed up to the back teeth reading reviews that are specifically designed to promote various bits of gear and are therefore somewhat biased. Lets face it how many of you have gone out and purchase the latest super dooper thingymajig only to find that its the bigest load of crap in your armoury of fishing equipement. I remember one instance when Penn brought out a new saltwater spinning reel. My mate bought one and it let him down the first time he used it and every time thereafter, (weak bail arm return spring that kept jumping of the pawl).
Ok I know that this will cause some distress to someone with a nice shiny thingymajig only to have it run down by someone, but if its your honest opinion then so be it.
Remember you do have the right to reply without it turning into a heated argument and by giving your honest opinion you may be helping another forum member.
You can work it out on the star system 1 to 5 and state why you have given it the rating that you have. |

|
|
This is a rod that I first aquired about 18months ago. They are made in various poundages from 20lb up to 100lb.
This rod is the lightest boat rod that I have ever used. I first used it on Blue Mink a charter boat from Fleetwod. The rod in question was 30lb to 50lb class. I caught the useual witting and flatties ect, then I rigged up for tope. Well all the other lads had a wry grin on their faces expexting the rod to snap at the first take. Well the first take was a ray. It was like winding in a bin bag full of water, but fair doos the rod stood up to it. The next take was a tope! Well the rod was really put under pressure almost doubled up in half but it was equal to the task. Well the others on board wanted to have a look at it as they were suitably impressed.
This is a rod that can be held all day without any strain on the arms and I yet to experience a better rod for bite detection.
On the downside is that if you put a reel on over say a 2/0 or something like an Abu 7000 then the setup feels clumsey as the butt is not wide enought to cope with anything larger.
I have 4 of them in my armoury at various poundages and although there not cheap approx £100 they are a nice bit of kit.
Star Rating 4 due to the butt problem for large reels. |

There's a tackle reviews section on the site Rabbi.
I too get sick of the reviews in magazines like TSF - they rave about everything and I've never read an adverse comment.
My favourite bits of kit? A 9' 6" Fox Impressa Plug and Spin Rod (£37.50) and a Shimano GTE5000C Baitrunner reeel (about £80). Both brillaint and very lightweight for spinning. |

have a ahnkering to try fly fishing myself sometime but I've got to master the ordinary stuff first.
Plus I've got so many bags of tackle around the house that Higher Authority has already got the 'ump. No way I can start adding more kit. |
