I understand that Weston Pier will be trialed for 4 days only for sea angling. The dates are 17 - 20 March and it will cost £5 to get on, 2 rods max and i reckon a drop net is a must - pity it is a weekday - might throw a sicky and get down there.
cheers

It will be interesting to hear how the pier fishes, in my opinion I don't think there'll be any advantage to fishing from it other than be making yourself £5 or £10 worse off. The majority of the fish you catch on weston beach are usually within 50/60 yards of the shore, sometimes right under your feet, flounder, bass, silver eels, whiting etc... So as the tide comes in the fish will just swim past you, you may catch for a short period on the flood and again on the ebb as the fish move past.
It could be handy on a really big spring tide when you are usually pushed well up the beach and you can fish into the gulley/gutter at the bottom of the sand where the mud starts but that will only really be a big enough for 1, may be 2 anglers. It may be worth trying for a schoolie or two straight down under your feet by the piles I spose but with all the criss/crossing metalwork, landing a fish could be difficult even with a drop net.
Suppose you could try wanging one off the end, you might get a thornback but who wants to pay 5/10 quid to catch one of they, you might aswell go up brean down and catch 10 of the things for free. |
