Not quite a complete novice, but its thirty years since I did any sea fishing.
Got some gear together and am in Newport Pembrokeshire for a long weekend Feb 15th onwards.

Any tips re bait etc.. would be appreciated.

hello welcome to the forum

bait to use is lug/rag/squid/sandeel/mackeral you can't go wrong with them

fishing wise anywhere from fishguard to cardigan bay is good

tackle wise you could use 2 hook paternoster/pulley rig/ running ledger or any other that you like

here is a detailed map of the area

http://www.multimap.com/maps/?t=l&map=52.01521,-4.83554|13|4&dp=841&loc=GB:52.0152128613554:-4.83553588207908:13

hope this can of some help to you

Getting excited now. Worked out its 35 years since I did any sea fishing.

Taking frozen mackerel and squid, with fresh ragworm as bait.

Staying just outside Newport in a touring caravan with the forecast showing minus 4C overnight.

Must be mad !! cool
