Derrymore Barely onto the penninsula and you have a beach There Flatfish, Ray and Bass are taken here, or try bottom fishing off the point.

Castlegregory Strand The beach below the carpark for rays from shore, Beach fishing is best near the stream and this will find Flatfish, the odd Bass and Dogfish. Rays are best taken on distance casts from below the car park. !

Barrick, Kilcummin and Fermoyle Beaches Bass have been taken on just 20 metres out! fly fish in the eastury best on a flood tide. and deep water at the rier and rocks

- Smerwick Harbour: Wine Strand & Ballinrannig If you fancy a shot at Cod this place holds them most off the year.

Ventry Strand Ventry is a beach that has loads for the spicies hunters lug works best bass wrasse some bull huss at times.

Inch Strand only have to read any sea angling mag or book to know this strand famous as one off the best storm beaches around. so surfcasting for bass, ray , flatties best from here.

took alot off this from local write ups but kerry and the cork area 2 off the best spots in ireland so you should not go far wrong. famous as one off if not best surf/storm beaches going. lug .peeler.rag.razor and sandeel. pully rigs for distance and simple one up one down or 2 hook scratchers for close in will do. travel light as possible as most beaches will want you to keep walking as they are stunning and you will want to try it all.

good luck

Hi Treeman you may get this twice lol, pressed the wrong button.

Just come back myself although no fishing this year due to family illness. Not to mention the cost this year!!

Have had some great boat sport in past years off the Skelligs but charter boats seem to be disappearing and those that are left are not cheap.

There are loads of marks around the coast but Fenit peir is an excellent location for peir fishing. Its at the end of the R558 road from Tralee.

You probably gonna have to dig your own bait though only know of one tackle shop that stocks it (and its frozen stuff-lugs, sandeel etc). Also many of the beaches I visit have no naturally occuring worms so you will need to explore a few.

In any event go to www.cfb.ie thats the Irish fisheries board website, you can download a list of shore marks for any Irish county with (very basic) maps with a brief resume of fishing type and expected species.

Let me know how you get on. Tight lines

Treeman,

If all else fails you could give the pier at Brandon a shot while your there especial if the weather takes a turn for the worst,

I just had a look in my log and one night last year there was a gale force 7 on the day making it impossible to fish inch / stradbally and a few more marks that I tried,

I had been told that I could get nice size whiting at Brandon so before I headed back to limerick I went and had a look around the pier as I had never been to the mark before I thought it best to go see what I may need in terms of rod rest and such,

When I got there it was calm the wind had dropped or it may have been the fact that I was surrounded by high mountains that made it feel that way,

When and if you go there fish off the end of the pier close to the lamp post and cast straight out,

Bait, I used lug frozen mackerel and squid, there’s plenty of marks that you can dig lug and if your trip is still on let me know as I’m in the Brandon Bay sea angling club and if I or any of the lads can make your fishing trip more enjoyable we would be more then happy to help,

My first bit of advice is to get yourself the ordnance survey map number 70 it gives more then enough of the area you will be staying,

Secondly, bring it with you everywhere you go… even to breakfast because no matter how good people’s directions to good marks are there’s nothing better then or easier then pointing to a mark on the map,

The night I went to Brandon I caught 3 codling, 1 Pollock, 2 Bullhuss, 9 Whiting, and lost a ray at the steps that would have been a personal best for me,

There’s a picture of a 120lb Skate in a pub there that was taken at the pier, I met the chap that caught it he told me it took him over an hour to land it on 20lb line,

I should have asked him the make of line he used,
