a basic overhead cast will get the bait in the water. With practice you can acheive good distances.
A link showing a pendulum cast was recently posted but I can't find it.

Thanks c-d !

Would the overhead be easiest to master ? I know that i wont be getting good distances to start with, but if i get the technique right then i gradually increase distance.

The fella at tackle shop gave a quick demo of the one where you stand "sidewards" to sea, then swivel round and release - is that the "off the ground" one ?

yes you are right with that one. It is a case that practice makes perfect.
Find yourself a field or open space with no people. Take a tennis ball make a small slit in it big enough that you could insert a small lead which you would obviously have attatched to your rod and line and just practice casting.
If you are out fishing and see another angler watch what he or she is doing with his casting. most anglers are friendly people and wouldn't mind you asking questions
The off the ground is pretty much the same technique but it is best used on clean beaches where the rig won't get caught on anything

Welcome Savo, I use the over-head cast and always have done since I started. It's enough around here as I fish off rock marks so the water depth would be a lot deeper than the same distance from a beach winking

Hi Mate, I often fish with a 12 ft Rod and FS reel. Having virtually taught myself OTG casting I can now do well over 100 yds when I need to. It is a relatively trouble free style unlike pendulum and would recommend it. Once you have learned that the secret is to swing steadily round and leave the power input to the final flick you are away. Having mastered it, I now do a modified version which involves a backswing so that the sinker does not actually touch the ground at all.
