Fishing at Torness Power Plant

Hi all,

After today's efforts at St Abbs, I thought I'd maybe move up the coast a bit for next week's trip. I've heard that the fishing at Torness is supposed to be good, due to the warm water outlet from the plant, and wondered if anyone has fished here recently. Would also appreciate any advice / tips on marks, rigs and bait.

The bass at Torness are there all year round , the bigger ones come in at this time of year to spawn.
Without a doubt the best method of catching is a spinning rod(11Ft.. ish)..........a "controller " float , used in carp fishing , make sure you buy the 20..oz, not the 12 oz (too small for distance cast). [URL=http://imageshack.us]

Attach a leader of AT LEAST 10 ft, then a small rubber/plastic eel, different colours work at different times.......same as Pollack, find which works on the day.
Cast out and retrieve............VERY SLOWLY........

I have fished Torness for years and find that the fish are there but YOU HAVE TO FIND THEM...........do not just stand in the same spot.......if you do not catch within half a dozen casts move a few feet , if the fish are not in the main outflow walk along the rocks towards the beach..............which can produce some good fish as it floods.............

Night fishing is better but you must use a BLACK EEL, I am not taking the p*ss BLACK !, if you cannot buy a black eel use a marker pen and make your own.........attach a nitelight to the controller (the small type which you snap to activate) you can then see where you are casting.

Rag or lug will also catch at full tide ..............a small lead / leader and cast onto the flat rocks to the RIGHT of the channel......DO NOT CAST INTO THE CHANNEL , IT IS VERY ROUGH AND MOST TACKLE IS ONLY EVER SEEN AGAIN AT LOW SPRINGS.........

You can also float rag /lug but this is not so good since you will DEFINATELY get tangled with other Anglers unless you are lucky enough to be alone.......

If you have never hooked a large bass..........you are in for a surprise.......

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I've just made the transition from fly fishing on the rivers to sea fishing so everything is totally new to me. I also take my 10 year old daughter with me as she enjoys fishing a lot, more so if we are catching something!

I usually do the baiting and casting and she does all the rest, basically because her 9ft rod is just a little on the large side for her at the moment.

I have a 12ft beachcaster and she has a 9ft pier rod, both with fixed spool reels. We have an assortment of tackle, which we are still trying to get used to, this includes trying to make our own rigs etc.

At the moment, I don't have a control float, although I'll do my best to get one before the weekend. I usually buy online, but with the postal strike and their backlog, not such a good idea!!

I have some coloured rubber sand eels, blue, red and black, plenty of hooks, beads swivels etc etc etc, but am a wee bit unsure as to how to put the rig you have suggested, together. Do you have any pics you could post or links to a site I could look at?
