Please post your Tactics / Tips on how to catch Garfish in your local area here. Please remember in this part of the forum to click the reply button to post and Not the "New Post" button Also one main point to remember is that these new forums are intended to help totally new sea anglers to the sport so please post in great detail type of rods/reels used, explain about traces/rigs used, depth to fish and so on or anything else I have missed that you feel will help the novice sea angler.

Basically for garfish, you need light gear, i use a 9ft abu garcia light spinning rod with small carp reel loaded with 10lb line. any small float will do i use a free sliding carp controller, but a standard small sea fishing float will do. i use 8lb trace and its best to use a longer trace as it will wash around more in the tide and attract more attention. hook size must be small as they have small mouths, 6 or 8 is perfect, with small strips of mackeral being best bait. any bait will work but fish baits are better as they can be seen easier. ideal depth for gars is anywhere near the surface, from on the surface to 10ft deep.[/quote]
