One day I will put all my gear into my Landy and bugger off to Upnorthshire and the land of the Jockenese and sample the fishing.
They have scenery to make a blank day worthwhile! |

Ah yes Southerly brother, you probably are even less familiar with the aquatic haggis. This wetted creature has a special skin which like a mackerel's is surprisingly delicate and you may kill one by the merest touch. However, with its specially adapted 4 fins (two on its left lateral position longer than the right fins, it can make exteremely sharp turns. albeit in one direction only, which will surely break all your gear. Tactics to lure the haggis are to use clockwise rotating spinners to allow the haggis the thrill of the chase as they rapaciously chase your gear through the surf, that's surf not south (this may sound the same in the SE of England). Finally I'd recommend that you do not use **large** jelly eels or conger to bait the larger haggis, as they only get upset as this can resemble Nessie (who guards their spawning grounds, in the depths of Loch Ness).
However, the land haggis is a simple creature, albeit with its left legs longer than its right, which makes it ideally suited to grazing on the steep slopes of the far Highlands. These are bagged (in season naturally!) by scaring them - they run round the mountain only to be shot head first on their return. Dirty tactics include the "lemming" where the haggis are herded by fierce hairy arsed highlanders who show them the "moon" which causes them to try to turn round on the spot. Sadly this causes them to fall over as their right leg is unable to balance with their left leg beign to much longer and facing the wrong way round the mountain. A dirty trick indeed! Very unsporting too.
Don't get me started about the dangling of the Sporrans.

|
|
Here's my suggestions:
Stonehaven Harbour Wall (easy parking and pubs nearby...) , probably best to make this a Monday or Tuesday evening - as its v. quiet then.
Crawton slightly further afield, and you need a car to get there (or cadge a lift). But the fishing's good at the moment - just the rocks underfoot can be hard to stand on.
Newtonhill Rocks - only suitable for maybe 3 or 4 anglers at once. I'm going there tonight I think...as I live 20 minutes walk away.
Any other suggestions?

Wednesday is a go-er for me and Codfather33.
I can go straight from work, I work in Altens - and am happy helping with logistics - if you can get yourself onto my side of town :-)
Anyone else up for it?

Hello
Myself and Marcus went out last night to Red Rock, to try and break my bait fishing duck. It was a success, I caught my very first dab on a mackerel bait on a 3/0 over under rig with a 6 Oz gripper lead. I'm delighted.
