Hi
I have just ordered some 20lb Ultima F1 line. I have read everywhere it is supposed to be the best line. Has any one got experience with it that they could tell me. Currently i am using Ultima Distance, it is an orangey yellow colour it is very soft and i love it.
cheers

I like some of the Ultima line, I really do. Used F1 once. Only once. Bit of sea, bit of sun, bit of gravel and it goes to pieces-literally! The stuff I had got so brittle that you could pull it apart with finger pressure and that was during one session!
I've used Red Ice and liked it, pro was ok, I've got midas on at the mo and that seems alright.
F1? I wouldn't. |

Personal choice- I've used F1 (15lb) and find it really nice for casting with- especially on the field- had no problems with abrasion myself when fishing on shingle with it and it has lasted- it is a bit stretchy but I didnt mind that. Only thing is it aint cheap.
My advice is give it a whirl and make your own mind up |

I hate F1. It's one of the worst lines I've ever used. It's bl**dy expensive and hasn't even lasted me one full session.
When I finally get my arse in gear I'm going to try some of the marlin line sold by UK hooks. It's just with my goldfish memory I keep forgetting to order it. Currently I'm using Trianium and that's good stuff, especially the red for some reason. |

Thanks everyone for the info - you know how it is this fishing malarky - if you do not try it yourself you will never know how good or bad something is. I am interested in the comments on the F1 not lasting long. I had the Red Ice - i have to admit for me it was the worst ever line. It laid, cast and fished just horrible.
The F1 i will try for bottom fishing. At the moment i am looking for a decent light float/spinning line. I am using 12lb at the mo but i want to drop to 10 or 8lb - any one got any thoughts.
cheers

It's a pity people don't write up tackle reviews in the "Fishing Tackle Reviews" link to the left of the page.
I think the reviews are a very important aspect of the site, but unfortunately overlooked by most people.
Out of interest, there is a new version of Red Ice out (according to wifey who got me some yesterday). I don't know if it's true, but if it is, I'll write it up the the review section. |

I have been using Ultima F1 now for about 4 months and never had any problem with it. It also links very well with Penn Tuff Stuff 60lb shockleader, but then it is a all a case of personal preference. Also I use multi's as opposed to F/S and would not know how it goes with the twisting that F/S causes. |

Perhaps the line industry is like the car industry.
Thousands of cars roll off the production line every year and some of them are brilliant, but most of them give problems (especially if they've been made by Landrover).
Thousands of miles of line is manufactured every year, perhaps some of you are getting lucky and are buying good spools and others are getting their hands on line where they've not got the process quite right and it's turned out rubbish.
Of course the line manufacturers will tell us that isn't possible because of their high tech equipment and we all know how good technology is don't we? |

I dont go for all that "designer" stuff myself whether it be Fishing line or whatever. Call me an old skinflint but the line i am using now i found at the bottom of the "to clear" bin in my local tackle shop! Its 20 lb mono and cost me £5.99 for 300yds. I dont even know the name of it as the label was worn off! I have been using it for the last few months for beachcasting and to make traces for boat fishing and i can honestly say its performed every bit as well as the "bling" stuff i have bought in the past. |

£5.99 for 300 yards of line is a premium rate price.
Tritanium is £9.00 for 1100 metres of .35mm (15lbs). |
