you will need a lead mould you can buy these from a tackle shop
depending on what weight you are making you will need some lengths of wire for the grips and for the loop that you fix your rig onto
a church roof and ladder lol
or some lead
its best to use a gas stove outside in the shed or garage the missus can be dangerous when you spill lead over the oven and floor
a strong bottomed pan to melt the lead in
a good pair of old oven gloves
a bucket of sand to place the mold in so you can pour the lead in safety
cut the lead up into small pieces then place into the pan and melt ,
mean while place the grip wires in the mould if you are using them
and into the top of the mould bend a length of wire into a loop, at the bottom of the loop bend the wire at right angles ,so it wont pull out of the weight , hang this in your mould using a nail
now place the mould into the sand bucket so it wont tip over
when the lead has melted there may be a scum on the surface , use an old spoon to scoop this off ,then you can pour the lead into the mould
BE CAREFULL PLEEEEEEZZZEEEEEE
when the mould is full be melting some more lead while the mould cools down after a few mins tip out the new lead into some water but not the mould as if it gets wet the lead may spit when you next use it
PLEASE ALWAYS USE GLOVES AND NO CHILDREN /PETS NEAR HOWEVER GOOD THEY BEHAVE AND WELL VENTILATED
i may have missed some info so if anyone else can add anything pleeze do
good luck cheers steve |

Another VERY important thing to do is get yourself some safety glasses from a DIY shop, as believe you me, a drop of molten metal in your eyeball is not an enjoyable experience, and you only ever get one pair of eyes
Also, While you're at the DIY shop buying your safety specs, see if you can get a pair of welding gauntlets, as they will protect your hands from the heat better than oven gloves, and you will be able to feel what you're doing better |
