any ideas on a decent pier rod on a budget all i seem to be finding are telescopic ones and im not a fan,any info would be of great use as the bairn has outgrown her lil spinning rod and wants to start casting a heavier lead so she can hold the bottom.

Hi whitby my brother bought shakespear zeta spinning rod for his 10yr old son he can use that with ease and flicks out an ounce lead but has been freshwater fishing for a while which has helped his cast.
Hope that helps m8 DAZ |

Why not a 9/10ft uptider? I have an Abu which cost me £30 around 8 years ago. It will cast a 4oz sinker up to 75 yds and is easily strong enough to haul in a 10lb bass/whatever. I also use it for summer mack spinning as it is light enough for continual casting. |

I have a Shakespeare Alpha X "mackerel" 10' rod which I use where the beachcaster is a bit too long. I find the handle a bit short, but this could be an advantage to a youngster. It's rated at 4 to 8 oz but it is happier at the 4oz end of the scale. It's a nice little rod, I like it.
Cost £20 new and they also do a 9' version.
BTW there was some confusion when I bought mine as the wrong number was printed in the catalogue and they kept sending the 9' one. The correct No. is 1207815

It looks like you're sorted, thanks to Royboy, but I just thought I would mention that I've just bought a rod that I'm very impressed with.
I should mention that I'm an old newcomer to beachcasting but I wanted something that could be used for spinning or harbour fishing.
I got an 11' Fladen Eco Bass Predator carbon rod from Boyes for £18 and it seems like it's going to be really versatile. (Not to be confused with 10' HiFlex)
I've just used it for Flounder spinning and it's a terrific little rod. Very light but rated for 5oz and it was flinging a Mepps with a little cylinder weight out a really good distance.
I'm sure it will be good for Harbour/Pier float or bottom fishing, fly fishing or light beachcasting.
I'm really looking forward to having a go at the Bass in the summer.
I'd recommend one to anyone who wants an all rounder. I don't coarse fish but I'm sure it could be used for that too. |
