Fished there Sat eve for the first time. I got there around 2030. There were a few lads to my left so i tucked away in the corner. Baits were Lug, Squid and white Rag. It was slow fishing, I had two small Whiting just after HW 2228. The lads had a few Whiting between them, so when they left i put a rod to where they were and had another two small whiting. Packed up at 0200. Tough going but cant wait for another go somewhere in Feb. |

Problem is that we are now in what I call the dead zone - inshore waters are now so cold that most fish don't want to know. You have to remember that fish are cold blooded creatures and just cannot produce enough energy to feed or move around once the water temperature drops below 7 degrees. Thus the gold fish in my pond just wander very slowly along the bottom and won't feed again until it gets a little warmer. Personally I will not be venturing out again until around the end of this month when I will try for the returning plaice if we get a nice calm sunny day. |

Whiting and dabs love this weather. Stokes bay 2 years ago the bivvies froze up and it had been a cold spell for a couple of weeks. Bumper catch of both species and well worth the cold . But fishing will start to slow anyway as they move off shore. Next species the plaice that every man and his dog will flock to Eastney to try and capture |
