Because I often take the opportunity to do some writing while I wait for a bite, I use bells on my rod tips.
Last time I went night fishing I had trouble with the battery contacts on one of the bells so I couldn't get the light going.
I realised that the hole in the bell body that the light plugs into is the same size as a glostick.
Now I don't bother with the battery lights, I just bought a cheapo box of 100 glosticks and plug one of those into the bell body.

Arrggh The Bells! The Bells those dratted Bells.! Some people love them others hate them. Nothing worse than fishing in a comp only to hear some other buggers bells ringing and knowing full well that they are ahead of you. Even worse when you ain't had a nibble.
Then there's the other sinario when someone forgets that they are still on their rod and makes a beautiful cast only to see The Bells disappearing into the wild blue yonder.
Then theirs me, who when I want to hear the Bells, I'll go to Church!!
Oh well such is life
Cheers

I use to use bells all the time and on occassions still do .But have found myself not useing them as much, when I had bells set up I found myself missing more bites when smaller fish did not register on the bell and I was looking else where .Now I do not rely on them and watch the rod tip like a hawk the catch rate has improved.

I don't like bells either. I have an electronic device (adapted from a doorbell)
on my rod tip that plays the hornpipe whenever I have a bite.
