Scott and myself got t the east arm at 12:30 Saturday bait being lug, squid and mackeral.Sea was a bit lumpey so started to fish inside the arm with light tackle, from the off bites almost instantley and just culd not get in to anything apart from rockling, but that did help on the speices hunt 21 for 2011.
As light dropped started to hit the whitting coming up in double hook ups on he 12ft beach casters, got bored after a few hours catching small stuff so decided t have some fun on light tackle (float rig).To my surprise the size of fish improved may be harder for smaller stuff to get to the bait first.Had a big bait out through the night with a 2/0 pulley pennel set up but not a sniff apart from the pins some taking hole squid. Final out come 18 rockling and over 70 whitting. Good night out and great company here's to the 2012 speices count .Good luck to all tight lines.

Forgot to mention that I spoke to a fella on the arm who said last time he fished there there was a comp, aparently the comp anglers were pulling whitting unclipping rig and throwing them on the deck behind them. When the bites stopped they unhooked the fish and threw them back, the fella who told me said countless amount of fish dead on the surface, he was shocked at the action's of these anglers as was I when I heard .Not a good advert for fishing especially with do gooder's looking for any excuse to try stopping another age old hobbie, pastime or sport what ever want to call it.
Sorry to moan this early in the year but start as you mean to go on lol

Good nights fun you had anyway.
At least you could fish, i went up up to North Wales at Christmas visiting the wifes relatives and fished the famous Bass surf beach at Dinas Dinlle near Caernarfon - only fished two short sessions all week - got blown off the beach, you could lean in to the wind and not fall over !! caught b----r all !
Where have all the 'big' whiting gone over the last couple of years, your lucky to get any sizeable these days - last good night i had at Shoreham for big whiting was in 2010 during the big freeze with all the snow, had a stack one night with some around the 1.5lb - 2lb mark, also had a bullhuss the same night, grabbed one of the smaller whiting, never seen one come up form Shoreham before.
Anyone seen any codling come up from Shoreham or Brighton this winter yet ??

The decent whitting seem to be a bit few and far between, only baging 11 this very mild winter.A different subject I know but weather related,I have stopped taking out the ferrets because there are so many young rabbits about when we were ferreting up until mid March last year.

Still time for a change in weather to get a cold snap. |
