It seems that I may have a bit more scope for my planned trip on Sunday.
Quite fancy Gilkicker as always did fairly well there when I fished it years ago. Got a few Q's if anyone can help -
Has much changed as to where you can fish ?
Best baits - always used to be rag and squid for me....
Parking - not as young as I used to be and MASSIVELY less fit - best place to park with the shortest hike please
With the winds as they are forecast will that be an issue - I know there was a weed problem round there too
Thanks in advance chaps |

Fishing spots have remained the same for years. Fenced off to the left as the SBS have there base there. Bait this time of year will be rag,lug and squid. Tides above 4.3m are best avoided as you will struggle to hold bottom. |

So with a 3.9m high and 16-20 mph westerley wind it should be perfectly fishable by my memory ? |

lol, i only found out a fews years back the Special Boat Squad was in residence there. Westerly winds should not be too much of a problem if you fish to the left . The tide is perfect for that venue.
And im sure terrorists will go on this site to find out forces information |

Just got in from my session at Gilkicker so a little report -
Arrived at 2pm and parked in Monckton Road as advised before doing, what was for me,the Yomp to the Fort.I took my son for his first experience of this venue.I planned to fish 2 rods one with squid strips for the whiting and a Pulley/Pennel whole squid for anything larger which was lurking around. My son had decided to fish a pulley/pennel Squid on his one rod. Only had squid as bait as not able to get any worm locally.
It was raining quite hard and the wind was a brisk SW. Got set up and I had a pin Whiting first cast which was encouraging, but this good start evaporated when the weed started chugging through shortly afterwards, with mountains of the stuff coming in on the retrieve. Lost both of my sets of end tackle when they got crossed over and swamped in a ton of weed so dropped to the one rod for the weedy period. It did subside for a fair while which enabled me to fish two rods again for a couple of hours. The rain eventually stopped and the wind eased a bit.Ended up fishing up til low tide around 10pm.
I ended up with 6 whiting to around half a pound, including two double headers but nothing on the whole squid.Unfortunately my son blanked but he did enjoy the trip and has already asked when we are going again. Just got to dry my gear out tomorrow before I start making plans for the next one. |

Well done on the fish. When i went there last i had problems with the weed. I had to give up in the daylight but it died back as it got dark. Weirdly enough the guys fishing to my left had no weed?!? |
