I'm hoping someone can tell me what these are.
I was fishing with my buddy up at Hutoft last night. I first noticed them on the
sand. A tiny bright green dot, only about 1mm, flashing a regular rhythm. It was the same green colour as the glosticks on my rods. Sometimes giving a steady light then flashing again.
Then I saw them on bits of seaweed and then there were loads of them on the seaweed that was coming in on my line. As I pulled the weed of my line then they were on my hands.
I assumed they're some kind of marine organism but when I turned my headlamp on to see if I could see anything then there was, apparently nothing.
I've tried Google with no success so I'd appreciate the wisdom of any salties.
Hoping it's not a radioactive beach
I just found it on a web search, this is what we saw

Hi
Its an algea that lives on the sea weed, the first time I saw it was at Dunggie. You can guess what I thought it was being next to the power station.

Yes, also seen it from time to time over the years, usually in the summer though. Can give you a bit of a scare when you first see it but it's harmless. |
