Can't undrstand why you use it in the first place as it dries out very quickly. I have always use sewing machine oil for lubricating reels.

Try a drop of 3 IN 1 oil it's what I use and never had a problem.

If you put it in the oil it would more than likely be molybedenium, if you put it in the fuel it would be Redex.

Slick 50, Used with bearings in an old deepfat fryer. It penetrates the surface of the metal by a few microns in effect givving them a ptfe coating. |

3in1 and sewing machine oil are light (about 10W I think) and are very satisfactory reel oils. If you want a lower viscosity, say 5W, you would have to hunt around for one, but I can't really see the point, unless you are tournament casting, your casting is as good as you can make it, and you want the extra metre or two. For fishing, no.
But don't use WD40: it is not a lubricant. |

Getting back to WD40 I understand that it is used a bait additive with varying degrees of success. |

thanks Frank i now no a bit more about wd40 now , just as well i never sprayed it on my bait , but i have seen plenty of folk do it . maniacmark i tryed Slick 50 years a go i found it turns to thick wen cold it's ok wen it's hot, as for tournament casting i am not that good but i like to be able to fish any were i wont to regardless of how far it is, there is nothing worse than the man next to caching and you being 10 meter short of the fish, thanks again for your input ian |
