Hi everyone,
I'm taking my little girl fishing soon as she's desperate to go with me and im taking her fishing off the wall at Brid.
I know this sounds silly but bear with me, i want to maximise her chances of
catching whilst giving her something to watch so i thought of float fishing off the harbour wall, not the side thats closed through the summer but the other side.
Is it worth float fishing off there this time of year??
any help would be great as ive yet to see a fish come out from the harbour at brid..
shes only 6 so safty is paramount which is why i chose brid!! |

i would not float fish at brid you want your bait on the bottom you are better of fishing a 2 hook flapper rig the north wall will be better and safer for you as theres a lot of cars and lorries drive down the south wall and some times there a bit fast its safer on the north wall |

Hi Nev, Royboys right, but unless things have changed you cant fish the north wall for another 11 days, (End Oct) If you fish the south wall, fish opposite the crane, (Theres a U shaped gully by the wall) To maximise her chances, buy a Sabiki rig, I use these when fishings slow, and rarely blank. The fish will be little uns, up to 6in long, but she wont care. Be careful when hopefully she catches, i don't know if weever fish are around at this time of year. If your not sure of the weever, look at my post in the stickies, (Know the Lesser Weever fish) Also, get her a crabbing net, she can amuse herself in between with that.
PS, if you get a sabiki, just drop it over the wall. also, just tip each hook with a tiny piece of bait. Cheers.....Mick |

if you are fishing the north pier the wall gets quite high towards the end of the pier so the little one would see nothingbut up until the cannon it will be fine just keep an eye on her as the harbour side is open and no wall to keep her safe. as for the sea bed i have never lost any gear there but it dose get a little crowded. |

Thanks for the replies everyone!!!
I usually fish off Filey brigg so not that used to brid but thats great info!!
I know the weaver fish all too well, very embarrassing first hand experience!!
I will be fishing the south pier, i know the north maybe better but theres a wall to sit on
and hopefully will be a bit safer>>
Its not health and safty gone mad im just a bit (probably alot) over protective! |

Nice to see someone who looks after their children, good on yer mate. All to often parents let their little ones run riot. My heart is always in my mouth when I see young uns climbing down steps, stcking their heads through harbour wll railngs of just standing too close to the edge of a pier.
Cheers

Thanks keith,
I have 2 girls one is almost 6 going on 18 and one is just over
9 months.
Very proud dad but also very nervous when theres danger around, i would
never let my children run riot i know better and so do they!!!!
To be honest i can see us getting on the pier, getting set up, then 10 minutes
later "Dad, im bored"!!
its all character building as my old dad says |
