Had one since they came out, should've bought a pair. Just about to have the spigot built up again with carbon spray, the joint has closed half an inch since new, as intended by design. Clever design touch, wet-grip sections either side of the joint to separate it. Will cast 5oz however far 400 turns of the Abu 6500 handle is.
For you it depends on where you fish and your personal style, the Daiwa probably ain't suited to kelp/rock cod hauling but I can't fault it on the south coast. No ring problems, hose off every time and wd40 twice a year. Lose the coasters once you settle on a reel position, put a screw-down reel seat on, ideally a trigger-grip if you multiply.
Poor cod to 4oz, conger to 18lb, bass to 12lb, all with no problems.
Can't help with the Shakespeare, I've got the compulsory K2 model. MK |

Didn't mean to mislead, I've only got the one of these but should have bought a pair. Used never less than twice a month all year round and it's the first one (of three) that I set up in comps, chesil to pevensey. You'll be OK with them.
There's a guy I know I'll never beat, 'Rob', he uses the setup you intend with FS reels and the rods rung for FS. Doesn't have the distractions that my multipliers bring, but you still need to concentrate to get the best from your FS's.
Wouldn't want to comment on a rod without fishing with it, so you'll have to use your own judgement on the Shakespeares. MK |
