me and mark had a bucket of fresh peeler each so we set off at 3pm to go and see if we could find our selves a spring cod or early bass
we found a mark with a very surfy looking bank with the water breaking for about 60yds and it looked perfect for a bass or two, and the deeper water either side looked nice for a cod.

we set out our stall with biggish baits of lug and peeler and sent our baits seaward.

1st cast i had a slack liner resulting in a bass of around 1lb.... a great start
a few nice pouting followed, then a good slack line bite
resulted in me beaching a brilliant spring run cod of around 3lb.

by this time mark was getting a few small scoolie bass to crab baits at distance on the bank.
all went quiet for an hour or so then mark shouts he has a decent fish on, which turned out to be a bass off around the 2.5lb mark.

a little later i managed a bass of around 2lb as the light was fading from fishing very close in and a couple off smaller scoolies of around 12oz.

as the light faded even more we thought about heading back home when marks distance rod arched over and the line fell slack, he played the fish for around 5 mins as it seemed intent on heading up tide.
he carefully brought the fish into the surf which was when the fun started, the fish went ballistic and made a last bid for freedom.
Marks timing was perfect in waiting for a wave to beach the fish and on the beach laid a prestine conditioned very plump and beutiful bass ......it looked very BIG

after a few piccys the fish was estimated to be around the 5.5lb mark and it was quickly returned to the surf

a AWSOME fish mark.....well done

ALL the fish were returned bar the cod which had swallowed the hooks.

i wont post the venue on site for obvious reasons
but get ya selves out and find these spots
all the hard work will pay off in the end
the holderness coast is becoming more and more a summer fishery in my opinion

tight lines

Sounds like a bloody good trip well done! and thanks for posting those quality pics! there is nothing quite like going out to target a certain species and actually catching them  and some decent size fish at that!
Cheers
