Went on a 3 hr Mackerel fishing trip with some buddies out of Portrush on Saturday evening. Had a great night with lots of mackerel caught along with some codling, gurnard and flounder. All were caught on feather rigs baited with mackerel or squid. Weather was magnificent even though the forecast was dodgy and we had lightning storms earlier in the afternoon.

For a bit of craic with some friends you couldn't beat it. I have had a few blank or near blank weeks off the beach and every sea angler needs this buzz once in a while to get their spirits back up

The boat skipper was knowledgable and very accomodating as there were a few non-anglers in the party. I have posted his web address at the end, highly recommended.

PS: The Guinness in the Harbour Bar was just as good

Thanks Denny, there were a fair few codling caught in the end. They seemed to respond well to squid bait and fished from near the bottom. There are some great little gravel banks out there beyond the Skerries that are hotchin' with fish.
