went to abboutsbury yesterday eve.meet up with a member from the local forum there.he had a small undulated ray of about 3lb,a baby tope anddoogie weighing 21/2lb,all i could muster was a few pout.woke at 5am to a sea alive with mackeral.had to fish hard to get some sizeable ones ,loads about the size of your hand.fished 7pm until 8am ,wished i hooked into the fish that pulled my rod nearly off the stand ,but thats fishing.

Mick, you caught fish thats why we go never shure what will turn up.
i have fished 2 parts of the itchen last 2 tides 3 bites on the first, none on the second. going for more punishment at the next tide.....
but that as you say is fishing!
keep at it . next time will bring the fish you have been waiting for. or the next time or the next etc etc.
was it easy to get to your fishing spot?
regards

yep it is easy to get to the spot.about a 80mile trip, oneway.then when you get there depends on how many mackeral bashers are there depends on how far you have got to walk along the shingle bank,18 miles to chose from.the thing about fishing chesil beach,is that you never know what you are going to catch,in my case not a lot,but last wensday a guy had 17 smoothounds ,all in daylight, all around 8lb.so well worth the trip.
mick.
best of luck on your nxt trip. |

we fished abbotsbury last night till around 2am, didn't see another soul after the feather chuckers cleared off. u must have been off to the east then mick?
had a couple nice doggies, pout and mackeral but that was it on the species front.
too much rubbish left on the beach as usual, ended up hauling 3 bags back to the car park with all our luggage.. quite sad turning up to a beach littered with beer cans and mackeral heads. |
