Being new to sea fishing and only been out twice and blanked. My boss {Ste } said he will come out with me to see if im doing it wright. So we went up to Arnside this morning to do a bit of ;what he calls flatty bashing. We fished 2 hours before and 2 hours after high tide the bait was fresh lug tipped with squid. Ste had 8 fish and I had 9 . 4 of them keepers . We had a few showers first thing and it was quite windy other than that it was great fun . Icant wait to go again. joe |

As you are from Preston, why not have a bash at the bullnose on Preston Dock?

Like anywhere else, it has good days and bad days. Pick a medium tide rather than a big one, the big tides are unfishable until almost slack water whereas a smaller tide can be fished in and out.
Rigs - two hook flappers with smallish hooks. Baits - Lug, rag, mackerel or cooked prawn.

Not one of my favourite spots, although after saying that I only fished it twice and on both occasions there were flotsom and jetsom in the form of floating branches, weed, shopping trollies and the usual unmentionables, never again
cheers

Well I've fished it several times and will continue to do so. Agreed, you do get branches coming up / down river on the very high tides as they are lifted off the banks by the rising water. One of the reasons I advised not fishing it on a very high tide.
As for weed, Marine and Rossall beach are far worse, I have never had my line snapped by weed at the bullnose.
I have never seen any shopping trolleys in the river but earlier this week I almost hooked a green plastic chair whilst fishing at the Five Barred Gate, a few weeks before it was a black office chair at Marine Beach. I heard of sea beds but sea chairs?
I don't know what is meant by "usual unmentionables" but the river is clean enough to be able to see the bottom at low tide,so perhaps these unmentionables are more usual where you fish?
It is not perfect - nothing is but it is a good spot for a bit of Flounder / Eel fishing and handy for us Prestonians. It is also a good spot for the less able angler to access.
If it was as bad as you imply, I would not fish there and I certainly would not advise a newbie to fish there either.

Sorry Frank mate, didn't mean to slag off your area but it was 3yrs ago since I fished there so things may have changed and yep its has easy access, being disabled myself there are all too few places for us to fish.
Cheers
