After nearly 20 years coarse fishing i've decided to have a go at sea fishing. Got out for my first 2 sesions this week. First i went to eastoke hayling fishing around high tide. Had a great time ,missed the first bite, lost the 2nd, then caught a nice bream (not sure what type, bright silver with a thin blue line on the lateral)
Then fished the evening low tide at st georges road and got an education in the perils of weed. Managed about 45 mins fishing then spent a couple of hours hauling in huge masses of weed. i did catch though..... a sea urchin!
I want to say a big thanks for a great forum as its been a big help in getting me started |

Glad you enjoyed it morgan. You will find that there is a lot to learn especially about the tides, weather and hotspots. E.g. the present weed problem at Eastney has almost certainly been caused by the wind direction and if it goes round to the north or west for a day or so, the weed will disappear. (then they will get it over on the IOW LOL) Let's hope you soon land a decent size bass as there seem to be few around at present (best fished for after dark btw) |

welcome mate, ah brings back some happy memories. No fish left in those rivers still?????
Sounds like you're off to a good start! Good luck with your next venture, if you've got a local spot it'll help to study it at all states and keep a diary if you can. All the best!!

Thanks all advice is most welcome. Would people mind if i pm them with a few questions i have?
It's not so much lack of fish (although otters are now causing havoc in some local rivers/stillwaters especially the river wallington/rother),
coarse fishing has lost its mystique through over commercialisation/exploitation.
I've had great times coarse fishing catching carp to 35lb, pike to 26lb, roach and grayling to 2.5lb but it's time for a change. Wierdly i've spent years fishing the lake at Sinah Warren on Hayling which is just few hundred yards from the sea and where you can hear the waves crash.
What ive really enjoyed is the unknown and uncertainty of sea fishing. I've lived just above Pompey/Hayling all my life so know the coastline well but now it's the fun of working out whats under the water. I've been coinciding our family walks with low tides to help.

You can certainly PM me Morgan, I have about 12 years experience both on the water and the beach and 6 years experience on Hayling where I now live. In fact you are welcome to pop in for a chat and a cuppa if you are passing and we could discuss gear, etc., if you want. |

Strangely enough, ive just acquired some carp gear and will be joining the club that runs sinah. The sea fishing isnt as great as it used to be and i had a lot of fun carp fishing when the sea wasnt producing a lot. Any tips on fishing sinah would be great |

No PM here mate - you have to be careful to fill in all the important bits - I have got it wrong myself in the past. |
