Before I start I know I am putting myself in the firing line!

Why anyone would want to catch flounder to me is a mystery, They are absoloutly tasteless and a bugger to fillet and when fillited have very little meat on them. Now if it were plaice that you were targeting I could understand.

Why make things difficult using fly's when the can be caught far more easily on worm or better still on uncooked mussel, which, by the way I have yet to see any anglers on here using.

Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking your ways of fishing, each to his own as what works for one may not work for another.

keith i agree with you on the flounder point being hard tio fillet and not very tasty.fly fishing for the flounder or any flat fish was my way of getting ready for the coming season and a chance to add another speices to the list of being caught on a fly.
as it turned out i didnt catch any flatties this morning but was enjoyable wadding around in the flat sea with the sunshining, said i know but i enjoy it.

Sorry Mick mate I wasn't trying to be funny, I just couldn't see the point until you explained it to me. Best of luck although I feel it doubtful that you will have much success as flounder are predominately bottom feeders.
Here's hoping that you will prove me wrong.
Cheers

If you look around the world and see just how many different types of fishing take place you will begin to realise just how diverse this sport of ours is. There are people out there who are pioneering new and different methods of catching fish all the time. They may or may not be more or less efficient ways of targeting a given species, but as long as it is enjoyable then that should be enough not for other people to knock it. As it happens targeting Flounder on the fly can be quite efficient, and is commonly practised in some areas where the fish proliferate. Flounder are very predatory and frequently chase down small prey both on and off the bottom. A Fly tied to imitate a small baitfish or Ragworm should and does work well for those prepared to put the effort in and pioneer the method. Catching any fish on a fly rod is fantastic fun, and much more sporting than with conventional sea fishing gear. Theoretically it should be possible to target a great many species of Sea fish with flies and fly gear, and indeed there are those who are quietly doing this with a good degree of success. Be open minded and try something new, I know I do frequently, and it makes my fishing incredibly exciting and rewarding.
Well done for giving it a go Mick, I admire your pioneering spirit, persist and you just might be rewarded for your effort winking
