Good luck.
I might be meeting a kayak chap at Hayling Island sunday...Yatch Club end
http://www.kayakuk.com/
I made contact with him via flyforums.
Perhaps you have come across him :cough:
Any tips/pointers for that end of Hayling?
How long/what time you going to be in Mudeford Mick, prob a bit too far for me though & Christine gets back from Canada tomorrow so i might not be too popular if I fcuk off for the whole of Sunday

I think you need a day ticket to fish within the harbour as the fishing rights are controlled by ringwood angling club.
Tight lined though.

Far as I know the boundary for the Ringwood club waters starts half way up the harbour opposite the sailing club that sits on the Bournemouth side of the harbour behind hengistbury head. For years thats been the case and havent heard of any changes since. We used to fish the lower reaches quite often in a small dinghy.
I wonder how many people have tried fishing the run at Mudeford for Pollack with a trotted float with a small worm on the hook, freshwater style. Years ago we used to fish from the end of the car park on the quay night times with a high tide round a bout 11-12 0clock. Just by accident one night when fishing was quiet I put a fresh water float on my line with a bit of worm on the hook and set the float so that the bait was no more than 2-3 foot under the float, and lo and behold almost immediately I caught a small Pollock, then another and another, this went on for the whole of the time the water was nearly still at high tide, bites only stopped as the water speed increased as the tide went out.
We went there to catch them many times after that and were always successful, not big fish but sizeable enough to take home.
We always went there on a night high tide and had a couple of tilleys sat on the edge of the wall for light, often wondered if the light attracted them.
Never tried during the day because we never reckoned to fish the wall while all the tourists were about but it makes you wonder if it wouldnt be worth a try there with a fly when theres nobody about. |

Yes do that mick. I have only recently taken up fly fishing, trout mostly but am keen to give it a go in the sea. Very keen to meet like minded people. Have fished in and around Mudeford for years, boat and beach conventionally, fly is all new. Thanks for the welcome. |
