Hi!
New to shore fishing although I had a dozen goes at boat fishing out of Poole about 20 years ago.
Am approaching retirement (so not like some of the youngbloods introducing themselves in this section of the forum) and I am going to be spending more of my time in the Algarve Portugal in the coming years. I thought that fishing off the beach/rocks in the sun would be an ideal way to spend my retirement (plus some occasional golf) so I've invested in some gear out there and had a few goes with little success - some tiddlers, something called a Salema, and a Garfish.
I'm avidly reading the magazines and books (I now know the difference between a snood and a shock leader) and I've now found this site which seems packed with info.
If anyone can give me any tips about fishing in the Atlantic in southern Portugal or knows of any good spots around Luz/Lagos/Portimao, I'd really appreciate it. All the spots I've found are either wide open sandy beaches with no fish, or very rocky areas where tackle loss and lines caught on rocks seem to haunt me! Have resorted to float fishing here as legering etc seems rock prone.
Anyway, will trawl the site (pardon pun) and try to learn more. |

Welcome to the mad house.
I've done a bit of fishing in clear european waters and one tip I can give you is, wherever possible use Flourocarbon line for your rigs. I've found that the fish are very line shy when using ordinary clear mono, but they don't seem to be able to see the flourocarbon line. |

Thanks Concrete. I'll try that.
I've been using amnesia for hook lines and red mainline - a guy in a tackle shop in Southsea told me that fish can't see red. |
