Hi Mark43,
I've got a Penn Supermag Xtra that I have had for about a month. If you click the "Fishing Tackle Reviews" on the left menu bar you should see it my comments on it.
I'm a novice when it comes to multipliers and so please bear with me if my review seems a bit "numpty". I can't comment on the other model, but I know there are a few on the forum that do use them and will provide you with some feedback. |

I know Mr Concrete has a 7HT and as I recall he liked its casting performance- Everything I've read about the 7HT in terms of reviews and opinions suggests it is a good reel because you can use it straight from the box without having to set it up although conversely some people have criticized it because it doesnt have mag control. It also depends on what kind of fishing you do - for example I'm not sure the 7HT would be good for heavy ground or rock fishing - whereas the supermag (which is what I use) is more robust- at least the old 525 Supermag was anyway- not sure about the SUpermag Xtra as i've not used it.
If you're using it for beach fishing and not bothered about mag control then the 7HT is probably a good option but others who use it might be able to give you a better and more in-depth working appraisal of it.
Hope this helps |

They both spanner pretty well by all accounts.
Especially the 525. I'm going to have another go on Sunday - are you coming Stuartdv or do you have other plans ?
Might be your last chance to fish with the Southern pooooftaaas before going back up North ???? |

Screaming-
I sent you a PM earlier today-unfortunately can't do Sunday evening but I've negotiated Saturday.
Bear with the multi mate- it just takes practise and perserverance- getting your casting action nice and smooth rather than sudden applications of power will help. Also try to make sure your line lay is good as this was my problem when I first started using a multi - bad line lay because I was not laying it on right caused me horrendous problems- you're always going to get some over-run- especially in the dark which is what happened to me at St Osyth- so just keep at it and practise in the daytime if you can- Summers on the way so that'll make daytime practise easier.
Cheers Mate
Look after yourself- oh and we'll definitely get out before I move back to Gods own and mix it with the northern hard men

Hi StuartDV
I can't do Saturday, but the week after, we can do Sat or Sun so if you like we can meet up then.
I have some commitment son Sat I can't get out of so sorry Stu, If I could move the date I would.
How about Sunday 21 - your choice of venue ?
We can probable rumble Essexman and maybe even Concrete ? The tide times may be a bit earlier aswell so it might be a bit easier. |

The Turbo casts great and the retrieve is superior to the original 7HT, but if I was resticted to one reel only, I would choose the Penn because it is very user friendly and the retrieve is fantastic. It's also a very simple reel to take apart. When you look inside, there's hardly anything to go wrong and the gears look like they came out of a tractor, really chunky. |

i would go for a mag elite.
the 525 is more for the rougher ground and the magnets are either on or off, there seems to be no middle ground with them.
as for the diawa`s i would go for the original 7 ht rather than the turbo,i have magged a couple of turbo`s and the build quality inside is very poor, i would very much doubt they would outlast an original 7ht.
hope this helps you some way to deciding. |

Personally i would go with the supermag,it cast as far as mag elite,7ht and the turbo, has more guts, yes it is mainly used over rough ground but it will cope well over any ground and in any given situation |

On the field the ABU's and Daiwa's have the edge, but on the beach with rigs attached there will be very little difference. |

Cain i am talking about from a fishing outlook not a casting field, non of your tournament casters are gonna fish rock edges and hit the distances they hit on a field with their favourite ABUs,Apart from that the Abus do not have the guts for rough ground fishing |
