Gents,
I always use multipliers but often take mates out dangling with me and set up fixed spool gear for them.
I have a couple of Emcast Evo reels (so that's not a problem) but currently team them up with my old multiplier rods - which works but could be better.
I'm looking at getting a couple of cheap Fixed Spool rods to match with the Evos. Probably 13 / 14 footers casting 4-6 ozs.
Any advices would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Dave |

Fishing Mad still seem to have Daiwa BF5500's for £29. I have found them quite reliable and smooth over the last couple of years. Make sure all the screws are tight if you buy tho'. |

Doh, sorry for being such a wally I suppose the Shakespeare Salt Range is probably the best value at present. One can get various carbon composite rods for around £30 and they are all much of a muchness from what I have seen but they are really only for holiday anglers and kids in my opinion. I had a couple a few years back but soon moved on to the full carbon stuff. |

Cheers Eccles,
I was considering either the Salt or something cheap from the Daiwa stable. I'll see what Poingdestres have got in stock.
Cheers,

Hi,
Received my Daiwa BF5500 fixed spool reel this morning, ordered from Fishing Mad after trawling through the forums for advice (thanks Eccles, Rabbi2 et al). Seems to be an excellent buy for £29 with 20lb mono loaded and even free postage. No box or spare spool but, for the money, can't fault it. Ordered it online at lunchtime yesterday and it arrived at my door, over 400 miles away, at 9:00am this morning. Seems to be very smooth, but the proof will be in the eating - can't wait to try it out at Dungeness.
Cheers, Geoff |
