fished an east cork beach twice this week in search of a ray, no joy but decided to give it another go last night.

started out with a dog and a few codling when a guy from the club came down after getting weeded off another beach near by.

was getting codling every 2nd cast in close with the biggest being 41, in august.

lee was into a few codling and a small eel.

i was baiting up one rod when i heard the other reel clicking. hadnt seen the bite but was hoping it might be a bass or better again, a ray taking off with the bait. i tightened the drag and lifted into it. still there anyway. i got it to about 30 yards and it tried to go off to the left so tightened the drag a little more and beached it. a nice little painted ray of 3lbs 8oz. not a monster but i didnt care. quick pic taken by lee and off he went again.

was hoping there was a few more nocking about but managed just the one. not much else after that just more summer codling.

Great news on the cod fishing Red, I wonder what the winter run will bring you. I hope you are stocking up on peelers.
Lovely ray.

i know this sounds mad but ive had more codling in 1 night in each of june, july and august than i did in all of the winter of 08/09. got a good few last winter but nothing to any great size. greedy little feckers are mad for swallowing hooks. doesnt really matter what size i use.

and as for the peelers, i was able to get fresh crab all last winter from a nice chap in youghal. my dad drives past his door once a week with work so i even get them delivered out to me big grin big grin

Great ray pic! Reading your East/West Cork reports has got me chomping at the bit here...I'm planning to come over to Cobh first week in November with my Dad for our annual Fishing trip.

We were over there last September and had a fantastic time so are keen to get back. Any tips would be greatly appreciated! big grin

Tight lines!

Paul.

let me know what your hoping to catch and remind me closer to the date and ill let you know where seems to be fishing best.
if ye're interested in boat fishing have a look at the bellavista hotel in cobh. they were doing free boats(warrior 165's) for every 2nd night you stayed with them a while back.
let me know too if ye need crab and ill get ye some, €10 for 12.

That's great thanks, I'll drop you a PM closer to the time once we've got confirmed dates and I'll definately take you up on the offer for some crabs.

Funnily enough we stayed at Bellavista last year, we're just waiting to hear back from Kevin.
