Problem is multi's are used "upside down" and hence usually need more rings to avoid the line carving up the rod blank. Suppose you could always add a few more rings but I don't know anyone who has done it although I have replaced rings from time to time; in fact I just did one today and it is not as difficult as some folks imagine. |

As Eccles says .... the problem will come when reeling in rather than casting though to be honest, off the shelf rods specifically designed for fixed spool use (and particularly longer continental style rods) generally don't have a good action for the fixed spool. Doesn't mean they can't be used just that some are better than others.
Just adding a few rings between existing rings is rarely ideal as it can be difficult to get suitable spacings .... better to have the tip re-rung or maybe even the whole rod, that way you will get a much smoother flow of line and the rod will load properly .. if you can do it yourself or have a mate that can do it no problem but good rodbuilders rarely come cheap so it might not be very cost effective. |
