Hi I have been lurking around in the Northe East section for around a year, but am planning to move my boat down to Hull Marina from the start of August, sick of the North east sea state (always choppy) We are hoping that the estuary will be a little calmer, is the fishing good, bearing in mind that me and the lad (10) are not reet good at it.
Looking for any help , best baits, best places etc our best results were at Brid using shads and Iceland prawns funnily enough, by best results I mean a couple of mackrel and a small fish we could not identify and chucked back
regards

hi tom wheres your boat at the moment and what speed will it run at as the humber around the marina runs between 5 and 9 knotts so a boat that will only do 6 to 7 knotts will be useless

Dave , many thanks for the reply, the boats got a 3 ltr Mercruiser at 135 HP, she will cruise easy at 25 knots and does 35 on a good day so hopefully it will fight the fast current, had a look on Sunday and you could see it about 6 to 8 knots West to East so going up stream would be a bit slow , but coming back would be fun.
She is currently in Hartlepool but the wife does not like the big swells up there, so we are looking for something more sheltered , so Hull it is, we are going to have a three month try out to make sure then hopefully make it our base, Depends if my little lad (10) can catch the odd fish in calmer waters , but also want to do some wave bashing with the lads when the wifes not there. We have got a good feeling about this so I hope we are right
Thanks again

Dave , she does about 6 to 10 miles to the gallon, flippin glad my car does better, about £20-30 quids worth gives you a fun afternoon and some fishing -gave up smoking when I got it two years ago, so I am honour bounds to pollute the atmosphere now instead of my lungs lol
Really looking forward to trying out the Humber , will post results in August , assuming I have any - wifes flappin about coming back down the estuary at full throttle plus a 6 - 9 knot current, won,t tell her yet that its far too scary for me either.
Am I going to be OK sticking with my shads and prawns or is there something else that works better locally
thanks again
TOM

when you fish the humber you have to fish it uptide casting close to the hawk anchorage theres a shipping lane close in at old hall thats very good all the boats get unwashed squid from grimsby that fishes the best |

Royboy
Thanks for the tip, will give it a try in August, presume it will be on the GPS
If I get a catch your welcome to a run out if you fancy later in the year.As you probably know as you have had a boat, when you,ve got one friends and family queue up to go out but sure I could manage to have a day out on a cold winter day when the Humber is feeling forgiving and the cod are out and the family and friends have given up on boating, she (the boat) is an oldie but a goodie, fully equipped GPS, Fishfinder, VHF etc add some local knowledge and there might be a catch in there somewhere, the little lad (cheeky little beggar that he is) say's "loads of gadgets but no fish eh dad" but we do have a laugh !!
the love of my life is on the boat owners register on page 2, not a picture of the wife to be seen, but do,nt tell her I said so
Thanks again
