Hi,
Set off at 6am with Mulletfly anticipating a good day.
Within 10 minutes of leaving the mooring we stumbled upon a number of birds working the glassy sea.
Bang,we were into a shoal of Bass and Mutterel.
We managed to stay with them for 3-4 hours with fish coming to the fly in abundance,so many hits, follow ups and hook ups.Awesome start to the day.
Then all switched off for some time.
Picked Tommo up from the shore and headed off the the shingle bank.
Colin and myself lay on the bank for a midday snooze when Tommo landed the fish of the day..........i just too tired to write anymore.
Cheers
Si
2nd installment.
As i was saying Colin and myself were snoozing while Tommo was trying my Di5 line,i was drifting off with my cap on my face listening to the line zip through the rod........suddenly aroused by Tommo's shout of 'Nice fish on'.
Watched him land a nice 3lb bass with another shadowing its every move.
We dropped Tommo off at the beach and made a hasty return to the shingle bank to retrieve Colin net with mackerel keeping fresh.Just managed to save it before the incoming tide.
Colin and I fished on at various spots picking up the odd schoolie.
I spotted some birds working off in the distance so we motored over to waist deep water and did several drifts through the shoal of Mackerel and Bass, they corralled the baitfish into water that was almost ankle deep.An awesome spectacle.
We pulled in fish after fish drift upon drift.
We both hooked up healthy sized bass at the same time and whilst i was taking a picture of Colins fish my own got caught around the anchour and escaped.
We maintained contact with the fish for some time when they eventually dissipated into unknown depths.
A few more cruises around the harbour produced no more so we headed off back to the mooring tired, aching and very very content indeed.
We both lost count of the fish landed, hooked and lost.
The high light of the day for me was the early start heading out of the the creek into the glassy harbour and spotting the early birds working.
I also learned that there is truth in the old saying 'you snooze, you lose'...nice fish Tommo.
Cheers
Simon |

I had to leave early, but with the fish of the day it didn't really matter. |

Simon didn't get round to mentioning his Clint Eastwood imitation, lighting up a big fat cigar after landing Bass number 100 of the day.
Plenty hard fighting Macks too. Probably the best days fishing I've ever had. Nice to catch them one your own flies as well.
They may have been late arriving this year but they are certainly making up for it now!!!
Well done again Tommo on your nice Bass and respect for releasing it after a few photos. |
